DIPARTIMENTO DI INGEGNERIA CIVILE E AMBIENTALE
Description
The Master is essentially divided into two semesters: the first semester includes lectures, seminars, laboratory visits and guided homework; the second semester is dedicated to the internship and the thesis. Students of the online Master will have the opportunity to view the lessons in synchronous or asynchronous mode throughout the entire Academic Year. All students will have access to the teaching material and video- recorded lessons that will be uploaded to the online platform and will remain available to students until the date of graduation. Students will also be able to take advantage, with a small additional fee, of other short courses offered by the School, to complete their educational training. Some of the lessons will have teaching material in English.
Educational project
The Master aims to train specialists in the field of Fire Engineering through a holistic approach with an in-depth study of all the phases that characterize this field. Therefore, specialist knowledge will be provided to perform risk, reliability and safety analyses in the field of Fire Engineering, for the design of active and passive fire protection systems, for the simulation of fires in confined spaces and on facades, for the simulation of occupant escape, and for an informed design of structures. Thermal mapping and structural analysis techniques of structural elements and assemblies subject to thermal gradients will be analysed, as well as the behaviour and design techniques of ordinary and pre-stressed reinforced concrete, steel, mixed, wood and masonry structures, with reference to the fire prevention code, the NTC, the Eurocodes and the most widespread international regulations, as well as consolidated and experimental post-fire diagnostic techniques. During the Master, the use of IT tools aimed at simulating fires in confined spaces and the exodus of occupants, thermal mapping, and structural response will be illustrated. In addition, the functions and methods of intervention of the national fire brigade will be illustrated and technical visits to specialized laboratories will be carried out.
Requirements
The admission is open to applicants with a Master of Science. Qualifications obtained abroad and equivalent in the respective study systems will be considered valid, upon approval by the Scientific Committee.
