DIPARTIMENTO DI ARCHITETTURA E STUDI URBANI
Descrizione
The first seminar of the series on Architecture and Sustainability will be with the participation of two international firms that have been working on issues of the reuse of materials and circularity in the last years: Rotor and 51n4e.
ROTOR is an architecture firm based in Brussels, which integrates the reuse of materials into its design process. Over the years, they have specialized in the theory and practice of the "deconstruction" of architecture, founding the spin-off Rotor Deconstruction, which deals with scouting, disassembling, and reintroducing materials and finishes into the design and construction supply chains.
The 51N4E studio, based in Brussels, conducts adaptive reuse projects adopting a multidimensional approach. By reusing existing structures, the studio pursues the objective of triggering urban transformations in different areas and scales.
Progetto Formativo
The seminar series, promoted in collaboration between the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies and Mapei, explores the contemporary relevance of the relationship between architecture and sustainability and identifies strategies and projects to overcome the current and upcoming ecological and environmental crisis. The architecture-sustainability relationship has been explored in various ways over the last few decades, but it poses new and urgent questions that are increasingly relevant.
Viewing the architectural project from a perspective of sustainability, which is simultaneously environmental, economic, and social, is strategic not only for the quality of individual projects but for the future of our cities and urban life. The perspective is to enhance the contribution that the culture and products of an excellent company can give to the quality of the architectural design in a sustainability perspective that is attentive to the material, cultural, and social resources that contribute to the quality and durability of the architecture.
