Architetti e costruttori italiani in Argentina tra Ottocento e Novecento
At Bookcity Milano 2025, the book "Architetti e costruttori italiani in Argentina. Storie di emigrazione e mobilità professionale, 1880-1974" by Giovanna D'Amia, published by Silvana Editoriale, 2025, will be presented.
The work of Italian architects and designers in Argentina between the 19th and 20th centuries was a significant factor in the modernization of the Latin American Republic and helped reshape the face of Buenos Aires during the years when the city was transforming into a cosmopolitan metropolis. This book reconstructs the biographical and professional experiences of seven Italian architects and builders active between Italy and the Río de la Plata region, spanning a period from 1880 (when Buenos Aires became the country's federal capital) to 1974 (the year of Perón's death and the crisis of developmentism). The seven protagonists—Carlo Morra, Vittorio Meano, Francesco Bisighini, Gaetano Moretti, Francesco Gianotti, Ferruccio Corbellani, and Mario Bigongiari—help shed light on the diverse forms and outcomes of the Italian presence in Argentina.
