Established in 1990, the PhD Programme in Design was among the first in the world dedicated to this subject area.
The programme trains researchers who can meet the challenges of contemporary society by performing original and rigorous research. Each doctoral candidate joins a research group and develops an individual project, representing the core of their training, which is complemented by participation in general and specialised teaching activities.
The PhD programme aims to produce graduates who are skilled in research and the use of design tools, able to produce, organise and manage knowledge, capable of interacting constructively with different professionals and organisations, and effective in communicating visions, scenarios and proposals.
These competencies make PhD candidates in Design valuable resources in a wide range of professional contexts where complex and constantly evolving problems are increasingly commonplace.
A list of suggested research topics is published on the programme’s website each year.
