For the entire duration of the three-year PhD program, doctoral candidates are entitled to receive a scholarship.

The minimum amount of the ministerial scholarship is €1,300. However, the amount may be higher depending on the funding source, the research topic, and individual departments.

Details regarding scholarships are provided in the admission announcement and in the research topic description. The scholarship application must be submitted together with the PhD admission application. Further information is available in the selection announcement.

Once admitted, to avoid losing the scholarship, it is essential to meet all deadlines: confirm acceptance of the scholarship within the specified timeframe and submit all required documents for enrollment by the relevant deadlines.

The first installment of the scholarship will be paid in October (for September intakes), together with the second installment. From November onward, payments will generally be made at the end of each month. Starting from the second installment, the scholarship may include additional increments, which will be divided into monthly payments. The second payment will also include any retroactive increments for the first two months, if applicable.

If the doctoral candidate needs to carry out study or research activities abroad, upon approval by the Doctoral Board, the scholarship amount will be increased by 50% for a total period not exceeding 12 months. This period may be extended up to a maximum of 18 months in the case of co-tutelle PhDs with foreign institutions, or under agreements or consortia.

If you have already received, even partially, a scholarship for a PhD course, you will not be eligible to apply for a second scholarship.

Research budget

Doctoral students are also supported by a specific departmental budget, approximately €5,000 for the entire three-year doctoral program, intended to cover expenses related to their study and research. This budget can be used to purchase teaching and research materials, such as books, software, and equipment, as well as to participate in conferences, conventions, workshops, and other educational activities that contribute to the student's scientific and professional growth.

To learn how to access this funding, the criteria for its use, and any other related information, please contact the departmental secretary of the doctoral program directly, who will be available to provide support and clarification.
