Admission procedure

Applications for admission

Applications must be completed and submitted exclusively electronically via the dedicated Online Services application, according to the procedures indicated in the call for applications. The annual call for applications is published on the Doctoral School website and in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic, usually in April.

The complete list of required documents, the number of positions offered (with and without scholarships), and the financial conditions are detailed in the call for applications.

Only candidates who meet the admission requirements are eligible.

Steps to apply

Applications for admission to the doctoral program are submitted exclusively through Online Services. Once you've reviewed the open calls and the possible thematic or general scholarships you're interested in, register for Online Services. You'll need to enter your personal information and upload an identification document.

You can begin filling out your application through the dedicated application.

Upload all required documents to apply.

You will need to upload information about your qualifications, official documents for your foreign qualification (diploma and transcript), and any translations. For Italian qualifications, a signed self-certification and a list of exams taken are required. You must also include a test of your English language proficiency, a research paper with a statement of motivation, and a CV.

Remember to consult the call for applications you wish to apply for; all the documents you will need to attach will be detailed there.

Once you've verified that all the documents are uploaded correctly, pay the application fee of €25.82. Before paying, remember to verify that you've uploaded the correct documents. Once paid, your application will be confirmed and you won't be able to make any changes.

Once your application is confirmed, you can wait for the ranking to be published. Check the announcement for publication. You will not be notified by email regarding your ranking position. If you were admitted with or without a scholarship and have no reservations, you can enroll. If you were admitted with reservations (either regarding your qualifications or English language qualifications), remember that you have until the enrollment deadline to upload the missing documents and enroll.

Candidate Evaluation

Candidates are evaluated by an adjudication committee composed of professors from the departments involved in the selection process. Each PhD program has its own selected experts appointed annually by the Doctoral Faculty.
The evaluation is based on the following characteristics:

  • CV (academic qualifications and publications)
  • A paper illustrating the development of potential research and motivation for pursuing the doctorate.

The selection process may include an additional interview to discuss the submitted material, which does not award extra points. The Committee decides whether or not to proceed with the interview, which is not mandatory.
