DIPARTIMENTO DI INGEGNERIA CIVILE E AMBIENTALE
Description
The Master programme has the objective of providing methodological and operational tools required for the evaluation of urban transformation alternatives, perceived as a complex unitary whole. The programme is addressed, in particular, to those involved in the development and transformation of the city and the local area as civil servants, professionals, project- financing promoters, real estate entrepreneurs, financial and insurance operators, non-profit organisations and in essence all those who carry out activities related to those of the program manager and, more precisely, the so-called "Polis-maker", with expertise in urban land management. The Specialising Master will take place with a dual training programme, constituted by both frontline and online teaching. The participation method is supplemented by a further 120 hours of seminars aimed at orienting students towards the world of work, followed by professional experience through the development of a single project. Online teaching is managed by the CISE consortium.
Educational project
The “PolisMaker” second-level Master aims to train professionals, public-sector officers and Value Managers with interdisciplinary competences that enable them to steer urban regeneration processes, strategic territorial management and conservation, pursuing environmental, economic and social sustainability, improving quality of life and generating value for communities. With its marked interdisciplinary approach, the programme combines knowledge from engineering, urban planning, architecture, economics, law, social and environmental sciences, providing methodologies and tools for the material and immaterial analysis of settlements, the economic-financial appraisal of complex projects and the management of multi-stakeholder decision-making processes. In the current phase of social and territorial transformation, the Master supplies the methodological and operational skills required to assess urban transformation options. In line with UNI 11915:2023, it develops advanced Value Management competences, alongside public and private appraisal, multi-criteria approaches and life-cycle costing, thereby supporting the selection and evaluation of urban transformations in their full complexity. Special attention is devoted to the “existential space”: from metropolitan areas to small villages, settlements are considered in their physical, cultural and landscape dimensions, guiding both the reading of settlement phenomena and the formulation of regenerative interventions aimed at human well-being. Upon completion, graduates will be able to interpret the historical, anthropological and natural evolution of places; integrate anthropic and ecosystem dimensions in the design and evaluation of interventions; systematically apply economic-financial appraisal techniques, public and private valuation, multi-criteria methods, ESG criteria and life-cycle costing; and coordinate participatory processes and management activities aimed at enhancing quality of life and creating socio-economic value for communities.
