Partnership between Baker Hughes and Politecnico di Milano renewed
The strategic partnership between Politecnico di Milano and Baker Hughes in the energy sector has been renewed for another five years. The agreement, further confirmation of the importance of synergy between academia and industrial innovation for Polimi, was signed by the Rector, Donatella Sciuto, and Paolo Noccioni, President of Nuovo Pignone, IET of Baker Hughes.
Over the five-year period 2019-2024, the collaboration focused on energy transition challenges, involving 6 departments of the Politecnico and 8 engineering teams from Baker Hughes. It resulted in impactful R&D achievements, including:
- 70 employment contracts to support R&D talent;
- 10 co-funded PhDs;
- 35 joint publications;
- 7 Horizon Europe proposals submitted, 5 of which were granted by the European Union;
- 3 patents.
Sharing knowledge is of absolute importance for our university. This collaboration demonstrates the intensity and quality of a twofold relationship built over time. Since 2019, six departments at Politecnico di Milano have been involved in joint initiatives, generating value and innovation in multiple scientific areas with a clear vision of what’s ahead.
Donatella Sciuto, Rector of the Politecnico di Milano
For the period 2025-2030, the partnership will expand its focus to include hydrogen, AI, CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and storage) and advanced manufacturing. The aim is to develop scalable solutions for more efficient and less carbon intensive industries, as well as deepening cooperation on talent development and startups innovation thanks to PoliHub, the Innovation Park & Startup Accelerator of Politecnico di Milano.
This partnership is an example of how innovation and collaboration can drive progress toward a sustainable future. We are confident that together we can develop digital and low carbon technologies that will make a real impact, both globally and locally.
