Luigi Colombo

Luigi Pietro Maria Colombo is Vice Rector of the Piacenza Territorial Campus and Full Professor of Industrial Thermal Engineering at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano.

His research focuses on heat and mass transfer, with particular emphasis on single- and two-phase convective phenomena, heat transfer technologies, and the analysis of industrial energy systems. Throughout his career, he has developed advanced experimental methodologies, including innovative optical measurement techniques, for the characterization of thermo-fluid dynamic phenomena.

As Head of the Multiphase Thermo-Fluids Laboratory at the Department of Energy, he coordinates research on the fluid dynamics of air-oil-water mixtures and on the boiling and condensation processes of pure fluids as well as azeotropic and zeotropic mixtures.

He has been actively involved in teaching and academic governance for many years, holding leadership roles in the Energy Engineering degree programme and the PhD Programme in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology. He also served as Chair of the Joint Committee of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering and is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Italian Association of Thermal Engineering, with responsibility for education and training initiatives.
