Strategic orientation

Being a leading player in science diplomacy

Politecnico di Milano aspires to be a leading player in science diplomacy, both in the sense of science for diplomacy - science as a strategic axis in international cooperation - and science in diplomacy - the University as a driver of informed policies for sustainable development with a global impact.

In the 2023-25 period we will: consolidate paradigms for international cooperation in research and institutional capacity building, with specific focus on the African continent; train young people in the ability to inform 'policies' using the outcomes of scientific research; actively participate in key networks and think tanks as a means to help bridge the gap between science and policymaking.

TNE - UNITAFRICA

The UNITAFRICA project, promoted by Italian Universities (UI) as part of the University Network for Development Cooperation (CUCS), is a strategic initiative aimed at promoting joint training, research and international academic cooperation with universities on the African continent. The project's objectives include promoting effective cooperation in teaching and research among participating universities, increasing the level of internationalisation of both Italian and African universities, identifying guidelines and best practices on teaching methodologies in relation to their effectiveness and impact, creating a solid foundation for building and strengthening synergies in joint training programmes between Italy and Africa, improving educational programmes and the use of innovative teaching methods, and promoting a new perspective on science for growth and human development.
