Activities
The Funtasma (Functional Sintered Materials) Interdepartmental Laboratory was founded in 2017 and houses the first machine in Italy for 3D printing with Binder Jetting powder bed technology for metallic and ceramic materials, which fits well into the wide range of additive technologies present at the university today.
The printing process, which involves two distinct phases (printing and consolidation by sintering), requires a multidisciplinary approach that combines the multiscale modeling aspect with the experimental one in order to obtain innovative functional materials.
Equipment
The Funtasma Laboratory is equipped with ExOne's "Innovent+" Binder Jetting 3D printer. For the printing of metal powders and ceramics and a furnace for the curing treatment of printed objects.
The printer is equipped with a print head capable of dispensing from 30 pL up to 80 pL, a recoater for the consolidation of the polymer adhesive and an ultrasonic source to facilitate the deposition of the powder that occurs by gravity.
The Funtasma laboratory can also count on the contribution of skills and equipment already present in the departments involved, which allow the modeling of the printing process and the consolidation by sintering of the printed objects.
Services provided
The laboratory, by aggregating the different skills present in the university, proposes itself as a reference on the national territory for Binder Jetting technology for research groups and companies that want to verify its potential and evaluate its possible applications to their lines of development.
Management committee
The management of the DataCloud Lab is carried out collegially by the Management Committee composed as follows:
- Elisabetta Di Nitto (Dipartimento DEIB)
- Maria Gabriella Signorini (Dipartimento DEIB)
- Ilenia Epifani (Dipartimento DMAT)
- Paola Pucci (Dipartimento DASTU)
- Massimo Tadi (Dipartimento DABC)
The Management Committee, on the recommendation of the Departments involved, appoints an Operational Committee.
