The Double Degree program at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) of Tongji University, active since the academic year 2012/2013, will allow you to get to know one of the best cultural offerings of China with regard to the themes of architecture, in a highly international. Tongji CAUP has always been devoted to the study of contemporary architecture without forgetting the territory and the relationship with Chinese history and culture. The learning program in Tongji develops in a similar way to that of Milan, but has its own particularity that makes it complementary to your knowledge acquired in Milan enriching it with new content, which will allow you to understand the Chinese world in its complexity. The opportunity to get a Chinese degree in architecture gives you the chance to work as a freelancer in China, after having passed the Chinese state exam, and to become part of the Alumni community of one of the most prestigious Schools worldwide. Structure of the double degree program The program envisages completing the first year of master's degree at the Politecnico, then in attending the second year at Tongji University and finally a further semester at the Politecnico. During the year in China, you will attend courses and will take exams that will be recognized at the Politecnico. The lessons are in English, but you will also take part in Chinese language and culture exams. Upon arrival, you will be assigned to a professor of Tongji, who will be your tutor and thesis supervisor. The tutor is assigned on the basis of the thesis project or the research area of interest that you have declared at the time of application to the Chinese university. Your thesis project is basic and for this reason it is highly recommended to discuss it with your degree course academic referent at Polimi before you send it to the Chinese university. The thesis is developed in Tongji under the supervision of a supervisor at the Chinese university, which can be joined by a co-supervisor of the Politecnico and you can discuss it within the fourth semester if you have met all the requirements of the Chinese university, including a blind review for the admission to the degree and approval to the final draft by an examiner from Tongji University. Otherwise you can discuss it later, but still within 4 years from the first year of enrollment at Tongji and will in any case be required your presence in Shanghai on the day of the discussion of the degree. Upon your return to Politecnico you will have to take the following exams: Project Appraisal, a Design Studio and three elective courses. You will have to modify or enrich the thesis according to the indications of the Politecnico's supervisor (who can be joined by a Tongji co-supervisor) and you can discuss it during one of the regular graduation sessions. Structure of the double degree programme According to this programme you will spend the first year of LM at Politecnico, the second year at Tongji University and a further semester at Politecnico. You can choose among three different tracks: Corporate Management; Technology Economics and Management; Management Science and Engineering. You will attend also classes of Chinese language and culture.
