ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE

PALAISEAU, FRANCE - Partner university code: F PALAISE01

Founded in 1794, Ecole Polytechnique or the X, as it is also internationally known, is among the most famous French Grande Ecole and one of the most important European engineering schools. Many excellent scientists, including Ampère and Curie, have studied or taught at this university. In 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte provided the École Polytechnique with the military status and the words "Pour la Patrie, les Sciences et la Gloire". The history of the École Polytechnique has always been closely connected to the periods of political, economic and social upheavals of the nineteenth century in France, so much that, even today, it is still famous for military merits of history, and its engineering students open the parade on the Champes Elisées, the so-called "X" and "Xettes", on the day of the storming of the Bastille, on July 14th. The X prepares the scientific, economic and industrial élite of France by combining high-level research and education, innovation in science and technology, and promotes a culture of excellence with a strong emphasis on science while remaining connected to humanistic traditions. Since 2001, it has been part of the ParisTech network, together with 11 Grandes Écoles of Paris. The school is at the top of world rankings: N° 1 of the French Grandes Écoles in Science and Technology according to L'Étudiant, N° 13 among the best European universities according to the QS World University Rankings of 2015/2016, at the 115th place of the Top 1,000 universities in the world according to The Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018. Politecnico di Milano, since more than 30 years, has mobility programmes with this institution.

Study Programme:

This project can find a match, in particular, with the programmes of Mathematical Engineering and Physics Engineering, while for other courses, it must be assessed for each case. Structure of Double Degree Programme If you are a student of the Engineering Faculty of Politecnico di Milano regularly enrolled in the second year of a study programme and you want to continue with a LM programme at the same University, you will have the opportunity to participate in a double degree project with the Ecole Polytechnique. Once selected by the X, after having taken an admission exam, you will replace the last trimester of the third year and the first year of LM with 2.5 years at Ecole Polytechnique. Starting from the end of January of your 3rd year, you will follow the scientific and linguistic preparation for the X, while from April you will include in your career the first year of "tronc cummun" of the "Ingénieur Polytechnicien" programme. Then, you will follow the 2nd and 3rd years of the programme. You will complete the three-year L final work at Politecnico di Milano, thanks to the validation of 30 of the 118 ECTS credits obtained in France until that moment. Once you have finished your career you will come back to POLIMI to attend the second year of the LM. Once you have obtained the LM degree in Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, you will also obtain the Diplome Terminal de l'Ecole Polytechnique at the X.
