Politecnico di Milano enters the Top 200 of the QS Sustainability Ranking 2026 for the first time, reaching 133rd place out of 2,002 universities evaluated.

This result marks a particularly significant improvement on its 278th place in the 2025 edition and 401st place in 2023, in a ranking that continues to grow: this year, the number of universities published has increased by 15% compared to the previous year.

At national level, the Politecnico rose from 9th to 2nd place in Italy, in a landscape that includes 57 Italian universities.

The improvement was driven by the Environmental Impact macro-category, in which the University rose from 399th to 111th place. Two particularly positive indicators emerged within this dimension.

The first is Environmental Sustainability, which measures policies and strategies for campus sustainability: the Politecnico ranks 42nd globally, coming first in Italy.

The second is Environmental Education, dedicated to training and educational initiatives on environmental issues, where the University ranks 238th worldwide, again coming first among Italian universities.

In the Social Impact macro-category, the Ranking highlights solid results in terms of relations with the world of work: 123rd place globally for ‘Employability and Opportunities’, which includes graduate reputation, partnerships and professional opportunities. The University also ranks well in ‘Knowledge Exchange’ (205th place), which assesses international collaborations and impact on the local area.

In the Governance category, dedicated to transparency, decision-making processes, representation and institutional integrity, the Politecnico ranks 135th globally.

The University's overall score in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2026 is 87.6/100, with improvements in almost all indicators compared to the previous year.
