OFA (additional educational obligations) for English, and how to fulfil them

If you enrol on a course delivered in Italian, and do not demonstrate your proficiency in English, you will be assigned OFA (additional educational obligations) for English. There will be some limitations to your study plan until you fulfil such obligations:

  • You cannot enter supernumerary courses
  • You cannot add courses from years following your year of enrolment
  • You cannot submit an independent study plan

You have two options to fulfil the OFA (additional educational obligations) for English:

  1. Deliver a certification recognised by the Politecnico di Milano
You can find the updated list on the Polimi website, in the section:
Info for → Enrolled students → Language requirements: English and Italian → Students enrolled in Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) programmes delivered in Italian (table "certifications required").
  2. Participate in tests organised by external bodies affiliated with the Politecnico
The list of entities is in the section:
Info for → Enrolled students → Language requirements: English and Italian → External bodies.

OFA (additional educational obligations) for Italian, and how to fulfil them

If you enrol on a course delivered in English, and do not demonstrate your proficiency in Italian, you will be assigned OFA (additional educational obligations) for Italian. You must fulfil such obligations before taking the final Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) exam, and finishing your programme.

You can fulfil such obligations by:

  1. Presenting a B2 level certification
It must be among those recognised by the MUR (CLIQ quality system). You can upload it via the website:
    www.polimi.it/contatti-studenti.
  2. Take a free Italian course organised by the Politecnico
The level of the course will be determined after an initial test.
If you attend at least 75% of the lectures, you will be able to take a final test that allows you to fulfil the OFA (additional educational obligations).
