Since its establishment in 1834, by division from the French-speaking Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) made by the Flemish lawyer Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen, Vrije universiteit Brussel wished to make clear, through these words, its independence from the church and the state, by declaring as basic principle the freedom of scientific thought that wins over everything. Flemish University with English courses, for more than 180 years has protected pluralism and diversity, opening up to all students regardless of their political, ideological, cultural and social backgrounds. Strongly research-oriented today, it works in close contact with its sister university ULB, by launching research projects and joint initiatives. Politecnico di Milano has Erasmus and Double Degree projects with VUB and its Department of Engineering."

The Bruface double degree agreement is open to the Engineering Schools of the Politecnico di Milano, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and the Ecole Polytechnique de l'Université Libre de Bruxelles (EP-ULB). It allows students to obtain a Master's degree from the Politecnico di Milano and the Master degree Ingénieur Civil from VUB and ULB. The Bruface Master of Science programmes are taught entirely in English and can be viewed at https://www.bruface.eu/ Structure of the double degree programme Once you have obtained your Bachelor's degree and completed the first year of your Master's degree at the Politecnico di Milano (240 ECTS for students enrolled in Building Engineering/Architecture C.U.), you will be entitled to attend the 1st and 2nd years of a Bruface Master of Science course at VUB. You will be required to attend courses and any other educational activities until you have obtained a total of 120 credits, including your thesis. Under the agreement, 60 of the 120 credits earned at VUB are recognised as equivalent by the professor responsible for international mobility for your course of study at Polimi. The final thesis is unique and produced under the supervision of two supervisors, one from Polimi and one from VUB, and must be discussed at both institutions in accordance with the rules of each university.
