"We teach complexity". With these words, the Ecoles Centrales Group partners, coming to our University every year, open their presentation to the students of Politecnico di Milano. It is true that, having a creative point of view and an open approach to the world, a strong initiative and knowing how to manage complex projects thanks to the study of scientific and humanistic subjects, are the real characteristics of the "Centralien", the graduate student of one of these schools. Being a centralien is a real social status, recognized throughout France and all over the world. One of the most famous centralien is Gustave Eiffel. The university is part of the Grandes écoles, the famous historical engineering schools that train the managers of the leadership of the country. More than 60% of the presidents and directors of the 100 largest French companies come from one of these institutions. Every year, thousands of French students try this national examination to enter one of these Schools, but only 4% of them is admitted. Thanks to the Double Degree Agreement with Centrale Nantes, Politecnico di Milano, since more than 20 years, can send dozens of students to this institution, who are directly admitted to attend classes and obtain the qualification equivalent to Master of Science at the end of their academic career.

The double degree with Central Nantes allows students who complete the programme to obtain the LM degree in Design and Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and the Diplôme National de Master in one of the Masters offered at École Centrale Nantes: Materials, Processes and Technology of Composites (M-ENG MPTC) o Advanced Manufacturing (M-ENG AM). The Master in Materials, Processes and Technology of Composites (M-ENG MPTC), at École Centrale Nantes, develops skills to provide innovative and optimized solutions in the design and production of composite materials for research and industry. The performance of composite materials and fiber-reinforced organic matrix structures are influenced by the building materials and manufacturing phase. The mechanical composite design can be properly and efficiently performed when you have a good understanding of their connections and constraints of production. Therefore, the courses offered in this programme will focus on theoretical and experimental connections among components, processing and structural design, through the development of skills such as: simulating and optimizing design and composite mechanical production using numerical tools; modelling the behaviour and physics of materials involved in the composite processes and characterizing and manufacturing composite materials, and in general, identifying models, performing simulation and analysing results, communicating the final results clearly, carrying out bibliographic research with references to international literature, manage and be part of a project. The Master in Advanced Manufacturing (M-ENG AM)This Master develops skills to provide innovative and optimized solutions in advanced design and production of products and facilities for research and industry. The courses are based on theoretical and practical aspects and cover the following areas: mechanical design of mechanisms and innovative products and design of customer-oriented products. Technical, human and economic factors are also taken into account. In this process, the following skills are developed: improvement of innovative processes and products for composite and metal materials and structures, designing products related to processes, working in an integrated numerical environment and in a global design and production chain, and in general, identify models, perform simulations and analyse their results, communicate these results clearly, carry out bibliographic researches with references to international literature, manage and be part of a project. This programme was called before Design of Systems and Products. Structure of the double degree programme The double degree for students of MSc Design and Engineering of Politecnico di Milano lasts 6 semesters.The departure for École Centrale Nantes is planned for the 2nd semester of the 2nd year of LM, then, you will continue your studies at the partner university and you can attend the Master in Materials, Processes and Technology of Composites at École Centrale Nantes (M-ENG MPTC) or the Master in Advanced Manufacturing (M-ENG AM) for three semesters. The courses, at École Centrale Nantes, are provided in English. At the end of the programme, you must produce and present, in both institutions, a final work in English (with a summary in Italian) or in Italian (with a summary in English).

Centrale Nantes, in its Diplome d'Ingénieur, provides a general education, based on the study of scientific subjects and basic techniques such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry, including also other disciplines such as economics, management, and humanistic subjects such as sociology, philosophy and languages. Sport has an important place in this university. These subjects prepare the student to face any engineering challenge, giving him/her a great ability to manage multidisciplinary projects in all fields and to have a global vision and an open approach to the world. Through the study of human and social sciences and the possibility of carrying out curricular internships in the company, students also improve their leadership and a strong team working skill through development of projects in team work. The course will be provided in French. Some courses will be provided in English. During the first and second year, compulsory internships are activated in leading companies of the country. Structure of the Double Degree programme 1st OPTION 2+2+2 If you are a student regularly enrolled in the second year of a Bachelor study programme of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering of Politecnico di Milano you can replace your third year with two years at Centrale Nantes. You must attend, at this institution, the courses of the first and second year, the so-called "tronc commun", corresponding to the 3rd and 4th year of university education. When you come back to Italy, the third year exams will be validated with equivalent exams taken at Centrale Nantes and you will obtain the qualification of Laurea at Politecnico di Milano. To complete the Double Degree programme and obtain the two qualifications, you must continue your studies by enrolling regularly in the Master programme of Politecnico di Milano. After obtaining the Master Degree, you will also receive the corresponding degree issued by the French university, the "Diplome d'ingénieur". 2nd OPTION 4+2 If you are a student regularly enrolled in the 1st year of the Master's degree in a course of study of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering and Civil, Environmental and Territorial Engineering and Architecture, Urban Planning Construction Engineering ( engineering programmes) or in the 4th year of Building Engineering/Architecture (C.U.) of the Politecnico di Milano you can replace your 2nd year (5th year for C.U.) with two years of stay at Centrale Nantes. You must attend the courses taken from semesters 5,6,9,10 of Formation Ingénieur and develop a thesis with a professor at the partner university and one at Politecnico di Milano. You will also have the opportunity to take part in internships under the supervision of the French university that are mandatory in your academic career. Upon returning to Italy the 2nd year exams will be validated with equivalent exams taken at Centrale Nantes, defending your thesis and obtaining the MSc degree at Politecnico di Milano and the corresponding degree issued by the French university, the "Diplome d 'ingénieur ".

The agreement is signed between the Master of Science Civil Engineering - track Structures of the School of Civil, Environmental and Land Management Engineering of Politecnico di Milano and the Master of Science in Materials and Structures in their Environment ( C-ENG MSE) of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes. The double degree allows students who complete the program to obtain the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, and Diplome Master Sciences, technologies, santéat CentraleNantes The sequence of semesters in which the program is structured includes 2 semesters to be carried out at POLIMI with the achievement of 60 credits in exams and 4 semesters at CentraleNantes by attending courses and/or activities recognized for 120 credits including the thesis. The program involves the elaboration of a single degree thesis, under the joint supervision of a Polimi professor and a CentraleNantes professor. The final thesis, produced in Italian and English, is presented and discussed in both universities.
