Donne e progetto : figure dell'architettura e del design nell'Italia contemporanea

a cura di Caterina Tantillo ... [et al.]

Quodlibet

2025

The volume explores the role of women in Italian architecture, design and urban planning from the early 1900s to the present day. Through essays selected by a multidisciplinary scientific committee, over one hundred leading figures in the field, active in Italy and abroad, emerge. This collaborative work restores visibility to individual and collective paths that have long remained on the margins of disciplinary narratives, but which are often central to the construction of contemporary architectural culture. The book is divided into thematic areas corresponding to the plurality of roles assumed by women in design culture: from university classrooms, where the first female architects combined training, teaching and professional practice, to the world of specialist publishing and exhibition curating, where they guided debate and promoted new ideas; from the international careers of those who found recognition beyond their borders to their commitment to their local areas, urban design, landscape care and heritage protection. The publication concludes with a bio-bibliographical appendix containing personal details, archival references and an annotated bibliography on the professionals investigated.
