On 22 April, the Politecnico di Milano has welcomed Prof. Anne L’Huillier, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2023. She is the fifth woman to receive recognition in this discipline. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has given her credit “for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter”, along with Pierre Agostini and Ferenc Krausz.
During the day, Anne L’Huillier visited various laboratories at the Department of Physics and at the Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies of CNR.
In her Nobel Lecture in front of a crowded classroom, Prof. L’Huillier charted the trajectory towards the generation of attosecond pulses. She also illustrated their various applications in the field of atomic and molecular physics.
