Descrizione dell'iniziativa
This workshop is not a style exercise, but an act of design care.
It is a way to train the designer's sensitivity, to foster attentive listening to materials and their stories, and to cultivate an attitude of regenerating meaning as well as form.
Starting from the theme of love—and its transformations over time—the aim of the workshop is to transform discarded pre-loved garments, through the technique of "reconstruction," into unique pieces that convey new affective and material narratives.
The workshop is conceived as an exercise in critical and experimental design through upcycling, exploring the possibility of recovering, reinterpreting, and reconstructing what once was. The goal is not merely functional or aesthetic, but symbolic and narrative: each garment must tell a story—of the person who donated it, of the one who once loved it, or of the one who might love it again.
Workshop Phases
1. Selection of garments
Participants will have access to pre-loved garments collected by the instructors. Each participant will choose one or more garments to develop their project.
2. Individual design
After analyzing the chosen garment(s), each participant will define a design concept in response to the given brief and develop an initial proposal.
3. Realization
Each participant will complete their upcycled piece, to be delivered by late September or early October.
Required Deliverables
- The upcycled garment
- Still-life photographs of the reconstructed piece
- A photographic "making of" reportage
- A narrative concept ("diary page") and a short technical sheet (describing the design process based on the original garment(s) and their material characteristics), following a format provided by the instructors
- A narrative label (physical or digital)
