Politecnico di Milano has launched a partnership with the IRCCS Cardiology Network which provides for participation in the CVrisk-IT project to promote cardiac health among students, teachers, technical-administrative staff, collaborators of the University and all the realities connected to it, in order to create a university that is increasingly aware and attentive to the health and psychophysical well-being of its community,  in line with the values of innovation and social responsibility that distinguish us.

A project for heart health

CVrisk-IT is the largest cardiovascular prevention project ever carried out in Italy, funded by Parliament and promoted by the Ministry of Health.

It is an initiative with a high scientific, innovative and social impact, which aims to evaluate whether the integration of complementary health information - such as radiological images or genetic data - can improve the estimation of cardiac risk at 10 years, in order to provide each participant with personalized advice to prevent these diseases.

The project has two main objectives:

  1. Enroll 30,000 healthy people, undiagnosed with heart disease or diabetes, between the ages of 40 and 80, collecting biological samples for research and providing personalized recommendations to prevent the onset of diseases.
  2. Create a multi-channel online community, open to all citizens, dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular risk.

Some data

Prevention is a key factor in the fight against cardiovascular disease: half of the risk factors for death associated with these diseases are in fact preventable.

According to ISTAT (2021), heart disease is the leading cause of death in Italy, accounting for 32% of total deaths, as well as representing the main item of health expenditure. Yet, only one in two Italians declares that they do "something" to protect themselves. This prevents the spread of the necessary prevention that would allow, instead, to eliminate preventable risk factors, increasing life expectancy by more than a decade compared to those who are exposed to them.

Our commitment

The participation of Politecnico di Milano in the CVrisk-IT project is part of the University's broader commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility, with particular attention to the health of staff and the territory in which it operates. The initiative reflects the concrete desire to promote the psycho-physical well-being of employees as a founding value of the academic and working community.

"We believe that a healthy, informed, and participatory university ecosystem is the foundation of a more conscious and resilient society."

Cristina Masella, Vice-Rector for Personnel Organization and Development at Politecnico di Milano

In In line with the clinical-scientific focus of the project and with its social mission, the Politecnico intends to raise awareness among all its stakeholders on the importance of prevention and the adoption of healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. By actively supporting CVrisk-IT's activities, the University aims to offer its staff tools and paths for the assessment of cardiac risk based on scientific data and innovative methodologies, helping to build greater awareness with respect to the early diagnosis of risk factors and to improve the quality of life of its employees.

How to participate?

Anyone interested can express their interest or register themselves and/or their family members directly on the CV-risk-IT project website. Alternatively, you can contact one of the 17 IRCCS network centers currently operating in the different regions. In the coming months, the network will expand with the entry of new facilities, ensuring widespread coverage throughout the country.
