How to apply

If you wish to apply for admission to one of our Laurea Magistrale programmes, you must:

  • register for the Online Services
  • click on the link 'Admission to the Laurea Magistrale: application, switch course, check application result and registration' and follow the procedure indicated.

    Warning: The application is only valid for the semester in which you are applying.
    If your application was accepted (green dot) but you did not enrol and wish to apply for another semester or in a subsequent academic year, you will have to re-apply.

1. Register fot the Online Services

If you are not a student at the Politecnico di Milano, you must first register for the Online Services:
go to www.polimi.it/servizionline and click on ‘Register’. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen: the procedure is simple and straightforward. However, to avoid mistakes, please read this advice before registering.

Have your details to hand

You will be asked to enter your personal details. In particular, have your tax code and a personal e-mail addressready.
Take care to type your e-mail address correctly: you will receive a message at this address asking you to confirm your registration. You will also need it to recover your password in case you forget it. You can also preview the personal data entered.

Password and user code

You will then be asked to set a password which you will use each time you log in to the Online Services. You can choose one before registering: it must be a sequence of at least 6 characters, containing at least 2 letters. Upon completing registration, you will be provided with a user code.

Print your receipt

If you carry out the registration process on a device connected to a printer, you can print out the screen showing your user code, using the option that appears on the screen. In any case, after a few minutes, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with a summary of your details: click on the link in the e-mail to complete the registration process and confirm your e-mail address.
Save your user code and password: you will need them to log in to all Politecnico di Milano online services, including:

  • submitting applications
  • submitting your study plan
  • checking classrooms and lecture times
  • registering for examinations
  • printing certificates

Students with a degree from the Politecnico di Milano who apply for admission to a Laurea Magistrale programme in continuity with their first level degree programme may be accepted if they meet the requirements decided by each School.
We remind you that the Schools of AUIC/ARCH and Design require applicants to have a certificate of English language proficiency by the application submission deadline, as set out in the Educational Regulations of each study programme.

If you are not a Politecnico di Milano graduate , you must upload the required documentation online.

Warning: even students who graduated from Politecnico di Milano may in some cases be required to submit documentation online for assessment purposes, depending on their previous degree programme and the Laurea Magistrale programme for which they are applying.

Submit the required documentation

The documentation to be submitted varies depending on the school that delivers the programmes in which you are interested:

School of Civil, Environmental and Land Management Engineering and School of Industrial and Information Engineering

If you wish to enrol in an Engineering programme at one of these two Schools and you are not a graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, you must upload the following documents as part of your application:

  • self-certification of your degree. If you are a final-year student, self-certification of examinations passed totalling at least 145 ECTS; 
    For the Laurea Magistrale programme in Management Engineering only, as a compulsory requirement for application, graduating students coming from other universities must have earned the ECTS required for their degree excluding the final examination only,  uploading a self-certification of their study plan with their application
  • declaration of the weighted average (for how to calculate the weighted average, click here)
  • self-certification of course programmes and examinations taken. For the Laurea Magistrale programme in Management Engineering only, in lieu of the course programmes, you may submit a self-certification of the examinations taken indicating the subject areas (SSDs) to which they belong
  • certificates of any other university qualifications: Master's, PhDs, Specialisation Schools

If you graduated from another University (or if you graduated from the Politecnico di Milano and you didn't register on your academic record the English language proficiency certificate required during the three-year programme)

  • you can self-certify your English proficiency as required for admission by selecting the required information from the drop-down menu and uploading your English language certificate. If you don't yet have a certificate, you can continue with the application process by selecting 'Next'. 

After enrolment, you will be contacted by the

Registrar’s Office to arrange presentation of the original certificate that you uploaded with your application.

You must make sure that you have the original copy, as if a certificate is found to be missing during application checks, this may lead to your enrolment being revoked.

However, students who took the test at an institution which sends the results electronically to the Politecnico di Milano do not need to submit the original certificate.

and you are not a graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, you must upload the following documents as part of your application:

  • self-certification of exams taken and the qualification obtained
  • If you are a final year/graduating student: - self-certification of the examinations passed earning at least 145 ECTS; self-certification of the expected date of graduation, which cannot be later than the expected date of enrolment; declaration of the weighted average (for how to calculate the weighted average, click here)
  • certificates of any other university qualifications: Master's, PhDs, Specialisation Schools

if you are a graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, you do not need to upload any proof of qualifications obtained at the university with your application: the Registrar’s Office will provide your previous academic record for the Evaluation Committee.
You will instead be required to provide:

  • any additional qualifications obtained at other universities.

If you graduated from another University (or if you graduated from the Politecnico di Milano and you didn't register on your academic record the English language proficiency certificate required during the three-year programme)

  • you can self-certify your English proficiency as required for admission by selecting the required information from the drop-down menu and uploading your English language certificate. If you don't yet have a certificate, you can continue with the application process by selecting 'Next'. 

After enrolment, you will be contacted by the

You must make sure that you have the original copy, as if a certificate is found to be missing during application checks, this may lead to your enrolment being revoked.

However, students who took the test at an institution which sends the results electronically to the Politecnico di Milano do not need to submit the original certificate.

School of Design

If you wish to enrol in a programme at the School of Design and you are not a graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, you must upload the following documents as part of your application:

  • a project portfolio (if your previous degree programme was not project-based, you can upload an abstract of your thesis)
  • motivational letter (a single document stating the applicant's motivations for their choice of Laurea Magistrale programme)
  • curriculum vitae and self-certification of examinations with marks (if you are a final year/graduating student, you must have obtained at least 145 ECTS, excluding the final examination), graduation mark and weighted exam mark average (for how to calculate the weighted average, click here)
  • certificate confirming your English language proficiency as required for admission, by the admission deadline.

After enrolment, you will be contacted by the 

Registrar’s Office to arrange presentation of the original certificate that you uploaded with your application.

You must make sure that you have the original copy, as if a certificate is found to be missing during application checks, this may lead to your enrolment being revoked.

However, students who took the test at an institution which sends the results electronically to the Politecnico di Milano do not need to submit the original certificate. 

If you wish to enrol in a programme at the School of Design and you are a graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, you must upload the following documents as part of your application:

  • a project Portfolio (except for students admitted automatically)
  • motivational letter (a single document stating the applicant's motivations for their choice of Laurea Magistrale programme; except for those admitted automatically)
  • Curriculum Vitae (except for those admitted automatically)
  • certificate confirming your English language proficiency as required for admission, by the application deadline.  You can declare your English language proficiency as required for admission by selecting the required data from the drop-down menu and uploading your English language certificate.
    If you do not yet have your certificate, you can continue with the application process by clicking 'Next'. For your application to be considered, you must present your original English language certificate to the Registrar’s Office by the admission deadline; in the meantime, you may upload a scanned copy of your English language certificate with your application.

Applicants can choose to submit the required documentation in English or Italian.
We remind you that graduating students must have obtained at least 145 ECTS, excluding the final examination, to be eligible to apply for the Laurea Magistrale programmes.
