
The Universidade da Madeira (UMa) is a Portuguese public university, created in 1988 in Funchal, capital of the autonomous region of Madeira, the island's largest city. The university offers first, second cycle and doctoral programs in a wide range of disciplines. Numerous scientific research activities are carried out within the Institute, promoting the dissemination and social and economic development of knowledge and technological innovation. UMa The main objective is human education at the highest levels, in its cultural, scientific, artistic, technical and professional aspects and seeks to prepare its students for the challenges of the global society and providing them with scientific knowledge, technical skills and cross-training. UMa wants them to become citizens of the world, creative and enterprising, responsible and professional, tolerant and attentive to the environmental, cultural and human challenges of a society that intends to be sustainable and fair. To this end, it supports actions and programs that contribute to the integration of its graduates in professional environments and promotes the spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship, as well as the mobility of students and graduates, particularly in the European area. Within the company UMa collaborates with the community (especially in the area of Madeira), government bodies, professional associations and higher education and research institutes, discovering, disseminating knowledge, conducting research and development projects and offering specialized services.
