The University of Évora is a public institution education whose origins date back to 1559. After being closed in the 18th century, the university was reopened in 1979. It is located in Évora, the second largest city in the region of the Alentejo and capital of the homonymous district. It has walls and is dominated by a medieval cathedral that towers over the labyrinth of narrow streets in the historic center. For the numerous presence of architectural testimonies in the most varied styles it is considered a city-museum and since 1986 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The EU is currently organized in departments that are grouped into schools linked to specific scientific domains: Art, Social Sciences, Technological Sciences and Health. The EU promotes knowledge through scientific and artistic research, experimentation and technological and humanistic development, the transmission of knowledge to the community for innovation and competitiveness of businesses, as well as the modernization of public services and social and cultural development of the community as a whole. Its campus is composed of buildings with a high asset value built in different historical periods.
