UNIVERSITY OF AVEIRO

The Universidade de Aveiro (UA), founded in 1973 in Aveiro, a city that brings together industry, business, tourism, sport, architectural and natural heritage, aims to create, share and apply knowledge, involving the whole community through teaching, research and cooperation with the surrounding environment, in order to make a clear difference for individuals and society. This global project is based on: an innovative and permanent learning, the development of critical and independent thinking, the provision of high quality education accessible to all, an influential research in creative enterprises, local and global, a strong cooperation with the society in a welcoming academic work environment. It aspires to become one of the leading research organizations in Europe, which is why it is strongly involved in this field. In order to achieve this goal, in recent years, it has implemented a strengthening in terms of infrastructures (buildings and scientific equipment) and research lines, including human resources and personnel. Interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity are fundamental values for the AU whose foreign community is, in fact, becoming ever greater: it has almost doubled in recent years and contributes to the creation of a multicultural ecosystem. This sense of community encourages civic participation and social responsibility. To promote exchanges, the UA has created a forum dedicated exclusively to welcoming, receiving and assisting international students - the UAI service - integrated within the UA's Espaço Viver - aims to welcome students and help them overcome the new challenges they face upon arrival and at the same time support them in developing a series of initiatives, with the help of the academic community and external organizations, so as to be able to promote intercultural dialogue, as well as tolerance and plurality.
