The University of Art and Design Linz focuses on the artistic, scientific and exchange potential of general knowledge related to the media and work with the media. Within the University, the intermediality represents on the one hand the communication of broad media skills in all courses and on the other the construction of a leading high-level research centre in the arts, sciences and economics. Therefore, the university works closely with other institutions, in particular with the Ars Electronica Center in Linz. The University of Art and Design Linz is mainly involved in the teaching of architecture, design, urban and regional planning, ecology and media. It combines practical, creative work, scientific research, applied and free artistic design under one roof; in addition, art-scientific research is one of its basic curricular activities. Both from a methodological point of view as well as from that of the transfer of knowledge and training, the difficult relationship between science and art requires extensive research and development of the arts. As a result, the university's profile includes cultural studies and art theory, media theory, educational and communication strategies, as well as gender studies in the context of practical artistic production.
