The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) welcomed the first students onto the campus in Odense in September 1966, and things have been developing by leaps and bounds ever since. SDU offers around 115 different study programmes in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences and engineering. Graduates of the University of Southern Denmark are now members of virtually every profession in the international community. SDU forms the framework for a diverse environment, allowing staff and students to make great efforts in research, teaching, dissemination and counselling. The university both receives and awards prizes and honours to talented researchers and students, among others. SDU has been one of the first higher education institutions to receive accreditation. This means that the Danish Accreditation Council assessed that SDU's quality system is overall able to continuously and systematically maintain and develop the quality and relevance of its programmes.
