ENSCI - FRENCH NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDIES IN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

PARIS, FRANCE - Partner university code: F PARIS174

The French National Institute for Advanced Studies in Industrial Design - Les Ateliers (ENSCI-Les Ateliers) is the only national school exclusively dedicated to industrial creation and design. At the time of its foundation, the idea was to break with academic models by placing creation at the heart of the concerns of industrial production and thus to revive the spirit of the Bauhaus or Black Mountain College. Near the Place de la Bastille, in the heart of Paris, the ENSCI-Les Ateliers occupies a historic site on the site of the former workshops of the decorator Jansen. The school has kept the spirit of these workshops, while opening up to the most contemporary technologies. From its origin, the ENSCI-Les Ateliers has set up an innovative pedagogy based on the project and the individualised curriculum. At the ENSCI-Les Ateliers, students "learn by doing": they experiment, proceed by iteration, handle uncertainties. One learns to manage complexity, to design uses and systems in a socially responsible approach.
