The Brno University of Technology (BUT) is the largest and oldest technical/engineering university in the Czech Republic with 8 faculties and 3 university institutes. Over more than hundred years of its existence the number of study areas has increased and at present university offers studies in technical, natural scientific, economic and artistic disciplines. The University is also focused on research and development. It has established several regional research centers and it also cooperates with other institutions at centers of excellence. Its programmes cover not only engineering but also the fields of natural science, arts, IT and economics, with a strong interdisciplinary emphasis and close connection with the industrial sphere.
