The Boulle School of Applied Arts, Interior and Product Design (École Boulle) is a public school founded in 1886 and takes its name from the cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle. The School has the legal status of both a technical high school of craftsmanship, interior architecture and design, as well as a high school of Applied Arts: in the first case the student is awarded the national secondary school diploma necessary to continue their university studies, while in the second case, after 4 years, the student obtains a diploma equivalent to a master degree related to one of the 3 departments among Spatial Design, Communication Design and Product Design. The School is one of the four major public art schools in the city of Paris, among which the Estienne School, oriented towards typography, the Duperré School, which is mainly dedicated to the professions of fashion, and the Olivier-de-Serres School. While remaining faithful to its past, the École Boulle has over the years modernized and opened up to the world of local and international economy and industry. The School offers two main branches of study: the Artistic Crafts branch (carpentry, cabinet making, decorations and surface treatments, carving, ornamental engraving, jewelry and restoration of antique furniture) and the Applied Arts branch (space design and architecture of interior, product design, visual expression and communication space). The first branch is the one traditionally known which makes the School famous in the world, the second is a high-level branch in the field of design which includes additional multidisciplinary education in Computer Graphics, Art History, Applied Philosophy and Semiology.
