Requirements

An English or Italian language proficiency certificate

All applicants need to provide a document attesting their English language knowledge. This is a requirement both for English and for Italian taught programmes.

If your bachelor degree was taught in English, you may upload a document certified by your university attesting the teaching language instead of the language certificate.

Italian language proof is required only for Italian-taught programmes.

Check the details and deadlines for providing the document.

A Bachelor Degree

Applicants to Master of Science programmes are required to have a Bachelor degree or to be in the process of completing a Bachelor degree. In case you have both a Bachelor and a Master Degree, you will be evaluated on the basis of your Bachelor Degree only

Required charachteristics of your Bachelor Degree:

  • must be obtained before enrollment to Politecnico di Milano.
  • must give access to the Level 7 EQF of the European Qualifications Framework.
  • must contain subjects closely related to the MSc programme you are applying to. Check here the requirements of each programme.
  • must be issued by a university or other institution at university level belonging to the official education system of the country of reference

Bachelor degrees obtained on the basis of a franchising agreement are not accepted. A franchising agreement is a process by which a degree-awarding body authorizes another organisation based in a different country to deliver, and sometimes assess, part (or all) of one of its own approved programmes.

Applicants who have a “Laurea” (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) in a different field or have attended a vocational school, cannot apply directly for a “Laurea Magistrale” (equivalent to Master of Science).

Applicants who have obtained an undergraduate qualification at a University of Applied Sciences (or any other university with a similar study profile) will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on the country of origin of the degree. For more information, consult the Corresponding Evaluation in ARDI database.

Before starting the application, please verify that your GPA fulfils the minimum GPA requirements (only valid for some Countries listed below).

A student who is not able to provide, for the enrolment, a valid Diploma Supplement (for the countries where it is foreseen) or a declaration of value of the diploma or CIMEA certifications, will not be allowed to become a PoliMi student even if the evaluation of his/her application was initially positive.

Please note that the Politecnico di Milano, at any stage of the evaluation of your dossier, may ask you to provide the declaration of value of your Diploma Degree or the CIMEA Statement of Comparability of the same. For more information on CIMEA documents, please check this website.

Country-specific requirements related to your degree

If you studied in one of the following countries please read carefully the information below. This is in addition to the list of documents required by the Admissions Office.

If the country where you have completed/are studying your Bachelor degree is not listed below then there are no Country-specific requirements.

The requirements (minimum GPA included) are strict, and no exceptions will be considered.

Students holding degrees issued by Institutions of Applied Sciences (or corresponding denomination in other languages) may not apply directly for a “Laurea Magistrale” (equivalent to Master of Science) programme at Politecnico di Milano.

These types of degrees are awarded by higher education institutions that offer professional-oriented programmes, therefore, they will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on the country of origin of the degree. For information, students are strongly advised to consult the Corresponding Evaluation in ARDI – Automatic Recognition Database - Italy.

Depending on the education system of the country of origin, these qualifications:

  • do not allow students to apply directly for a “Laurea Magistrale” (equivalent to Master of Science). Students may consider applying for a Laurea Triennale programme (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science), some of the courses completed during previous studies may be considered for a credit transfer to the bachelor level, if admitted, or students may consider applying for access to Master universitario di primo livello programmes.

or

  • allow students to apply directly for a “Laurea Magistrale” (equivalent to Master of Science), taking into account the nature of the courses completed and the specific Italian programme to which the applicant intends to apply.
