Emilio Bartezzaghi

Professor emeritus of Politecnico di Milano

"He has greatly contributed to the development of Management Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, both as a professor and researcher, and by his energetic organisational and cultural activity. For seven years he was Director of the recently founded Department of Economics and Production (now Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering). In those years his work was essential in forging a strong departmental identity around the consolidation of the three research areas - management, industrial economics and industrial engineering - which still characterise the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering today. He was President of the MIP University Consortium - Business School of the Politecnico di Milano for a period in which the consortium experienced strong growth in the quality of its programmes, its national and international visibility in the world of management training and, last but not least, turnover. He played a leading role in the Politecnico's internationalisation process as the Rector's Delegate for International Promotion and in 2005 he created the Italian-Chinese Campus in Shanghai. Since the creation of the Fondazione Politecnico, he has been involved in its development, was a member of its board of directors upon appointment by the Academic Senate for three four-year terms, and also Vice-President.

He was an active member of the Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Gestionale (AiIG), of which he was for years a member of the governing board and President. He has served as a member of the board of the European Operations Management Association and was a Professor of EIASM – the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management in Brussels.

His research activity has been in the fields of innovation and organisational change management, operations and supply chain management, organisation and human capital management. He has participated widely in journals and conferences; he is the author of more than 200 publications, some of which are widely cited in important international scientific journals and deemed worthy of awards and recognitions.

In 2017 the President of the Republic awarded him the honour of Officer of Merit of the Italian Republic."
