Maria Pina Limongelli elected as Vice President of IABSE

Our professor specialized in structural health monitoring of civil structures


At IABSE’s 89th Meeting of the Permanent Committee, Maria Pina Limongelli was elected as Vice Presidents of IABSE until 2027.

Professor of the Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering, her field of expertise is the structural health monitoring of civil structures.

Her major projects and responsibilities include: from 2023 onwards as the coordinator of the Horizon Europe MSCA project BRIDGITISE; coordinator of the Horizon Europe ERIES project SCOUR&SHAKE; coordinator for the PRIN project Horus, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research; PI of the Horizon Europe MSCA project OBSERVATION, and from 2019-2022, as member of the Working Group for the development of the ‘Guidelines for structural health monitoring of bridges’, funded by the Regional Lombardy authority.

IABSE is the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, a scientific and technical Association comprising members in 100 countries and counting 58 National Groups worldwide. Founded in 1929 it has its seat in Zurich.

IABSE deals with all aspects of structural engineering: the science and art of planning, design, construction, operation, monitoring and inspection, maintenance, rehabilitation and preservation, demolition and dismantling of structures, taking into consideration technical, economic, environmental, aesthetic and social aspects. The term 'Structures' includes bridges, buildings and all types of civil engineering structures, composed of any structural material.

The aim of the Association is to exchange knowledge and to advance the practice of structural engineering worldwide in the service of the profession and society.
