Description
The educational project is based on a blendedlearning approach that integrates
theoreticaltraining modules in e-learning with face-to-faceworkshop activities and a
project workdeveloped during a professional internship.Theoretical training modules in
e-learningmode: students, using the e- learningplatform, follow all the e-learning
didacticmodules managing autonomously the timesand the hours of use of the didactic
contentswith exercises for the assessment of learningcontents. The theoretical training
modules,delivered in e-learning mode, concern thefollowing subjects: - strategic design
anddesign thinking; - human centered design; -marketing and communication; -
companies,the sector and the markets; - technologies andmaterials; - laws and safety;
- pedagogy,psychology, cognitive ergonomics; -communication and distribution. Face-
to-facedesign workshops: the workshops are intensivedesign sessions lasting four
weeks each (themaster's program includes 2 workshops carriedout with companies
operating in the children-oriented sectors). Starting from the skillsgained in the e-
learning modules and duringthe workshops, the candidate will then be ableto develop a
project work during a professionalinternship lasting 3 months. During theinternship, the
candidate will be able toindependently develop a final project based onthe practical
experience developed in theinternship and the knowledge and interestsgained
throughout the Master. The Final Projectmust be delivered in the form of a
digitalpresentation and discussed in an exam sessionwith the presence of the appointed
TeachingCommittee.
Educational project
The Master in Design for Kids & is organized in partnership with Assogiocattoli, which
represents Italian manufacturers and distributors working in this industry Italy
generally
excels in design (that means culture, method and practice of project and production) in
several fields like fashion, food and creativity applied to multiple activities, but in the
toy and childcare productions Italian design has yet toplay a key role in building a
recognizable identity. The "Design System" and "System of Enterprise", shows
significant episodes butcertainly not a coherent and recognizableoversight in children's
products, in furniture forchildren, in the game and in the toy sector. From this scenario
it comes a need in poly-technical and multi-skill training. Designersand, in particular,
strategic designers have the role of create scenarios understanding themany aspects
and skills that compose thesystem. Design a toy or a product/service forchildren needs
the skills to design the whole system of artefacts, around the child and for products
and
services. Too often actually products for children have been interpreted asthe
declination of pre-existing goods,overloaded with signs, functions and coloursinserted
in
a deliberately redundant packaging,or the unmediated reproduction of an adultobject.
Today technology offers interestingopportunities but often it is not a vehicle ofqualified
contents able to generate new waysof playing, learning and socializing orstimulating
creativity and imagination, butmore often it is a self-referential and notsuitable for
children component. If we thinktoday about the "Design for Kids", then we realize the
number and type of skills needed todesign a quality product aimed at the world of
children.
Requirements
Master in Design for Kids & Toys is open toapplicants who have a university
degree(Laurea, equivalent to a Bachelor ofScience) under the old or the
neweducational
system or a Laurea Magistrale(equivalent to a Master of Science) underthe new
educational system inArchitecture, Engineering and IndustrialDesign, and in related
economic disciplines,Communication Science, EducationalScience and to applicants with
equivalentqualifications. The Board shall admitapplicants who have qualifications
indisciplines other than those specifiedabove, if the Master may complete thetraining of
the applicant or the professionalskills and experience shown by same. TheSpecializing
Master is completely inEnglish: preference will be given tocandidates with a good
knowledge ofEnglish.
