Learning by bike: this could be the core of innovation of this teaching action. The idea is to introduce the environmental design of the long-distance cycle tourism infrastructure by pedaling with students on paths that are partly equipped and partly yet to be equipped. Along a cycle path, students will be able to realize, appropriately guided, the state of the art identifying their strengths and weaknesses, design errors and possible remedies. Along the non-cycle paths, on the other hand, the project elements will be provided to design a cycle in its shape and functionality (e.g. service levels) as well as debate with them the hypothesis of layout in order to optimize the relationship between different types of users and the surrounding landscape. In both situations, students will receive the basic techniques to carry out a pre-projectual technical inspection, which is fundamental to realize the best possible infrastructural design. Special attention will also be done to special works such as bridges, walkways, intersections, etc., to artistic installations, to facilities, to communication techniques and to the gates to small urban centers and to high environmental sensitivity areas. The lesson by bike will be preceded and followed by other lessons in the classroom respectively of preparation and synthesis. The field of experimentation will be identified in a part of the cycle (ongoing) path "VENTO" (www.progetto.vento.polimi.it). The by bike lesson will be held during the 2019 edition of VENTObiciTour (www.ventobicitour.it).
