Description of the initiative
The course aims to stimulate the skills of engineering students, by applying the theoretical concepts learned during the courses of robotics and automation to simple self-built experimental devices (based on low-cost hardware). The ultimate goal of the course is to establish a virtuous circle that leads the student, through the stimuli received from the experimental activity, both to compare the theoretical skills acquired during the courses, by increasing the awareness of the actual understanding and of his ability to apply the studied methodologies, and to become passionate, through the results obtained in the experimental activity, to increase his interest to deepen the technical knowledge.To achieve these objectives, the course will propose to students, divided into small groups (from 3 to 5 students per group), the development of experimental activities related to the design and implementation, on low-cost embedded devices, of the control system of simple self-built experimental setups. The experiences will focus on those setups that, even in their simplicity, will allow to experiment classical techniques of control of manipulators and mobile robots, the main methodologies of analysis and control of linear and non-linear dynamic systems.The activity of the students will be evaluated mainly on the following aspects:
- team work skills;
- ability to manage a small project independently;
- results achieved.
