Structured Reactors with INTensified ENergy Transfer for Breakthrough Catalytic Technologies (INTENT)

INTENT will drive the development of next-generation non-adiabatic catalytic reactors with enhanced radial heat transport, wherein the catalyst is coated onto or packed into structured substrates, like honeycomb monoliths, open-cell foams or other cellular matrices, fabricated with thermally conductive materials. The goal of INTENT is to elucidate fundamental and engineering properties of such novel conductive structured substrates, investigate new concepts for their design, manufacturing, catalytic activation and operation, and demonstrate their potential for a quantum leap in the intensification of three catalytic processes which are key to the present-day energy technology: i) distributed H2 generation via efficient small-size reformers; ii) conversion of syngas to clean synthetic fuels in compact reactors; iii) production of solar H2.
