Politecnico di Milano annually attracts more than € 100 million through research contracts and external funding. These self-financing activities account for a large part of its total budget.
The University is the first in Italy and 5th in Europe for projects funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Programme (2021-2027), which proves its ability to plan and attract funding:
- number of funded projects: 228*
- success rate: 22.82%
- income from the EU: approximately € 114,50 million
*Under the prestigious ERC Subprogramme, 27 Grants have been awarded as Host Institutions.

Politecnico di Milano carries out research activities with several public and private bodies. The University has recently signed important partnerships with major national and international companies. The main public partners are: Ministries, Lombardy Regional Government, Municipality of Milan, Chamber of Commerce, CNR, ASI, Enea.
