DIPARTIMENTO DI ARCHITETTURA E STUDI URBANI

Description

The event will focus on the sustainability of social housing, in particular with the presentation of the work carried out during the yeard by the Balearic Social Housing Institut (IBAVI), a public body attached to the Mobility and Housing Ministry of the Government of the Balearic Islands that started his work in 1986. IBAVI is a clever example of an institution that works to facilitate and improve access to housing for the region’s residents. The quality and sensitivity of IBAVI’s projects are very relevant in the current contemporary scenario, their work is based on two objectives: to tacke both the current housing crisis and the ongoing climate emergency.

Educational project

The seminar series, promoted in collaboration between the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies and Mapei, explores the contemporary relevance of the relationship between architecture and sustainability and identifies strategies and projects to overcome the current and upcoming ecological and environmental crisis. The architecture-sustainability relationship has been explored in various ways over the last few decades, but it poses new and urgent questions that are increasingly relevant. Viewing the architectural project from a perspective of sustainability, which is simultaneously environmental, economic, and social, is strategic not only for the quality of individual projects but for the future of our cities and urban life. The perspective is to enhance the contribution that the culture and products of an excellent company can give to the quality of the architectural design in a sustainability perspective that is attentive to the material, cultural, and social resources that contribute to the quality and durability of the architecture.
