Description of the initiative

The course is related to the so-called metastructures and metasurfaces, defined as structures and surfaces exhibiting "exotic" mechanical properties, not encountered in classical materials.
Among them, one of the most interesting one is the capability of attenuating and propagating waves in certain frequency ranges.
The course, based on a series of seminars, will present the specific and unique properties of meta-surfaces, meta-structures and metamaterials making reference to some interesting applications and case studies. The course will be structured as follows: the first part will be dedicated to the theoretical background, while the second one will show possible applications. Moreover, some time will be dedicated to case studies and experimental tests.
The exam will consist in the presentation of a project on an assigned case study.
