In the scientific production of the last decades LaTeX has established itself as the main redaction tool in the academic environment.The main reason of its large diffusion is in the effectiveness of being able to represent both text and formulas with high typographical quality through a sufficiently high-level programming language masterable also by non programmers. The course "An introduction to LaTeX: from basics to thesis" aims to present the main tools to write documents, with a particular attention to theses, papers and scientific presentations. Indeed, the course consists in four lectures: in the first, basic commands, math and text environments, and custom definitions are introduced. The second lecture is focused on handling floating objects environments (tables, figures, captions, graphics) and built in environment (minipages).A third lesson is dedicated to the design and to the making of a scientific presentation (beamer). Finally, in the last lecture thesis and article writing are addressed.At the end of each lesson, it is scheduled an exercise session to test the acquired knowledge.
