Description of the initiative
The MSc Programme in Nuclear Engineering at Politecnico di Milano offers students an initiative to be carried out entirely at a local industrial company, Gilardoni S.p.A. of Mandello del Lario (LC), a leading manufacturer of X-ray and ultrasound equipment in three different sectors: Medical, Security and Non-Destructive Testing. The radiology market for these sectors is defined by high scientific and technical content, continuous innovation and rapid evolution.The students will participate in a one-day workshop at the company with the aim to deepen their knowledge of radiation in the industrial sector on topics such as: the physics of X-rays, x-ray tubes (technical characteristics, types, construction technologies and main problems), tomography, image processing, radiation protection in Gilardoni. Then it will be possible to visit the plant and finally participate in tomography activities in the laboratory with Gilardoni instruments.
