How to become a Visiting Professor

According to the University goal of a growing internationalization, the Departments of Politecnico active in research invite foreign professors and researchers to spend a period of time (that may vary in length) in our University, with a teaching or research assignment.

If you’ve been invited from one of our Departments and you intend to come to Politecnico di Milano as Visiting Professor, in this web section you will find all the necessary information: a brief presentation of our University and of the territory where it operates, the administrative procedures and the documents that you have to prepare, the list of the Politecnico accommodation, the services offered to professors and researchers within our Campus.

CANDIDACY

If you are a foreign Professor or Researcher interested in collaborating with Politecnico di Milano, you can send your candidacy to the Contact Person for Visiting Professor of the Department which is more similar to your professional background. DOCUMENTS AND PROCEDURES

You can ask help to prepare all the necessary documents and to carry on all the bureaucratic procedures either to the Contact person for Visiting Professor in your Department or to the Visiting Professor Welcome Office (see the contacts in the dedicated page). The Contact person for Visiting Professor in your Department and the Visiting Professor Welcome Office will lead you step by step to the administrative procedures and will support you for all the issues related to your staying in Italy.

Milano, Lombardy, Italy

Milano is situated in the North of Italy and it is the capital city of Lombardy, the italian region with the highest number of population. Milano is considered:

  • the italian economic and finance capital: with the headquarter of the Stock Exchange and of many of the most important industrial and financial businesses of our Country
  • the italian capital of fashion and design: the city is the symbol of the italian style all over the world, it hosts many of the main italian fashion maisons and international fashion fairs, such as Settimana della Moda and Salone Internazionale del Mobile; a Design School operates in the very Politecnico di Milano
  • the italian capital of theater: it hosts the Teatro alla Scala, considered the temple of lyrics and well known all over the world and severals prose theaters such as the Piccolo Teatro
  • the italian capital of publishing: it hosts the headquarters of the main daily newspapers (Il Corriere della Sera, Il Sole 24 ore) and many of the main italian publishing houses (Mondadori, Feltrinelli, Garzanti, Rizzoli)

Milano has always participated in an active way to the National History since its origins, contributing to the purposes and to the aims that led to the Italy reunification in the 19th century. Milano is related with some of the most important people of Italian history, such as: Leonardo da Vinci (who lived here from 1482 to 1500), Alessandro Manzoni, Arturo Toscanini, Carlo Emilio Gadda, Luchino Visconti. In Milano operated two Nobel prizes: Giulio Natta (1963, in chemistry) and Dario Fo (1997, in literature).
