Accompanying Relatives

You can come to Italy either alone or accompanied by one or more relatives. The admitted relatives are:

  • spouse
  • children aged less than 18 (also children of the spouse, children born outside marriage, children of unmarried parents or legally divorced parents, provided that the other parent, if still living, agrees on it)
  • depending children, aged more than 18, who can’t earn their living due to permanent health problems
  • depending parents who cannot benefit from an adequate economic sustain in their home Country

This is what you have to do in order to come to Italy with your relatives:

If you come from an EU Country

  • Before leaving your Country: if your relatives will stay in Italy for more than 3 months, get a copy of documents that certify your civil status and your family composition and bring it to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your Country, asking to translate it in italian and certify it; if you decided to live in a private accommodation, you also need a certificate of accommodation suitability (please contact us for further details)
  • Once in Italy: after the first 3 months your relatives must subscribe to the office of vital records of the Municipalty where you live, bringing with themselves the certified copy of their civil status and your family composition

If you come from an EXTRA–EU Country

  • Before leaving your Country we send you a pre-filled form that you need to have certified to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your Country. Then, you will send us the certified document and we will ask for the Nulla Osta for your relatives
  • Upon your arrival: it is important that your relatives enter Italy together with you!
  • After arriving in Italy: contact our Welcome Office that will help you for the Permit of stay request

Attention: if you come from a Country exempted from visa for 3 months staying, your relatives can come to Italy without a Nulla Osta and later request for family cohesion. In this case you can contact us in order to know which documents you have to prepare.
