MSc in Digital and Interaction Design
The Master’s Degree in Digital & Interaction Design trains professionals specialized in the design and development of interactive artifacts, both digital and physical. The programme adopts an interdisciplinary approach to the integration of design, digital technologies, and electronics, with particular attention to user experience, usability, and technological innovation. Students learn how to conceive complex interactive solutions — products, interfaces, connected devices, and interactive environments — capable of effectively addressing the needs of contemporary contexts.
Admission to the Master’s Degree programme in Digital and Interaction Design is reserved for candidates holding a first-level degree (EQF 6) in classes L-4, L-17, L-8, L-9 or L-31, or another suitable qualification, provided that they have obtained at least 36 ECTS credits in the Scientific Disciplinary Sectors CEAR-08/D (formerly ICAR/13) and 09/IINF-05 (formerly ING-INF/05). In the case of curricular deficiencies, the Committee may require supplementary coursework before proceeding with the assessment of individual preparation.
Admission to the Master’s Degree programme is subject to assessment of individual preparation and placement in a merit ranking.
A minimum weighted average grade of 23/30 is required for Politecnico di Milano graduates, and 25/30 for graduates from other Italian universities.
English language proficiency must be certified when submitting the application, by achieving the minimum scores in tests recognised by the University.
For full details regarding eligible degree classes, evaluation criteria, and selection procedures, please refer to the course's Academic Regulations (section 6).
Applicants holding a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent qualification consistent with the fields of design, architecture or engineering may apply to the Master’s Degree programme in Digital and Interaction Design, provided that the qualification is deemed suitable by the Programme Board and that the Scientific Disciplinary Sectors and credits obtained in each sector can be identified. Where this is not possible, the applicant’s academic record will be assessed individually by the Programme Board.
Admission is subject to assessment of individual preparation and to possession of adequate English language proficiency, demonstrated by achieving the minimum scores in tests recognised by the University.
Procedures and deadlines are indicated in the "Eligibility and Admission Requirements" section of the University and School of Design websites.
The programme combines a solid theoretical foundation with practical and professional activities over two years. In the first year, students acquire core knowledge in interaction design, human and social sciences, and digital and engineering technologies; these competencies are applied through design studios and intensive workshops, often developed in collaboration with external partners. In the second year, students consolidate and specialize their skills through advanced design studios and a mandatory internship in a company or professional studio. Throughout the programme, emphasis is placed on representation, prototyping, and testing of interactive solutions, with opportunities to personalize the study path through elective courses.
The Master’s Degree in Digital & Interaction Design equips graduates to enter the job market with advanced competencies in digital and interactive design. Graduates may work as digital designers, interaction designers, UX/UI designers, information architects, service designers, and developers of smart products and smart spaces, as well as in roles focused on innovation management within multidisciplinary teams.
Career opportunities are available in design studios, consultancy firms, technology companies, and public or private institutions, as well as through freelance practice or entrepreneurial initiatives. Graduates may also continue their academic path through PhD programmes or second-level master’s degrees.
