Descrizione
The present invention consists of
a device (phantom) designed
for the training of surgeons in the performance of percutaneous lithotripsy (PCNL), an operation involving kidney stone crushing within the urinary tracts.
The phantom proposed aims to
reproduce the anatomical portion of interest for the PCNL, allowing the
simulation of surgery under ultrasound guidance and with appropriate haptic feedback. The phantom with adequate fidelity reproduces the succession of affected tissues
from access anterograde.
It is used with guide
tools similar to those used on the patient (echo, thanks to the use of materials with characteristics comparable noise with the biological tissues of interest), allows the i
nsertion of surgical instruments providing the operator with a haptic feedback comparable to that experienced in the room.
Campo di applicazione
The present invention can be used for:

Training of clinical staff;

Evaluation of new devices / surgical approaches.

Vantaggi
This solution has various advantages compared with solutions of the known art.

Firstly, the device or mannequin enables access to the kidney from different angulations and entry points, so accentuating the device potentiality in terms of approach, typical of surgical training procedures.

Secondly, the device can be reused for simulating several procedures (of the order of tens of times).

Thirdly, similar to that which happens in the operating theatre, a previously implemented procedure leaves only a minimal surface tract and an internal echographic trace.

Fourthly, the choice of materials enables the mannequin to be easily constructed.

Fifthly, the mannequin can accommodate different cartridges at successive times; for this reason the cartridges containing the kidneys are produced in suitable separate moulds.
