Honorary PhD to Stefano Boeri

Recognition awarded by Università di Milano-Bicocca

The Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Chemical, Geological and Environmental Science to Professor Stefano Boeri (Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano).

The title was awarded upon proposal by the university's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences because – reads the motivation – “over the course of his prestigious academic and professional career, architect Stefano Boeri has successfully completed highly interdisciplinary projects, introducing concepts like urban forestation and biodiversity to the fields of architecture and urban planning."

Stefano Boeri is full professor of Urban Planning at the Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated in Architecture in 1980, and is director of the Future City Lab at Tongji University in Shanghai. He is President of the Fondazione Futuro delle Città and Chair of the Scientific Committee of Forestami, an urban forestation project in the Milan metropolitan area. He has also been President of Triennale Milano since 2018.

The award ceremony - at which Stefano Boeri gave the lectio magistralis 'L’ambiente geniale' (The Ingenious Environment) - was held in the Aula Magna of the Università Bicocca, attended by the rector Giovanna Iannantuoni, vice rector Marco Emilio Orlandi, president of the doctoral school Maria Luce Frezzotti and director of the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences Andrea Zanchi.
