CREA Lab - Laboratory of Compressible-fluid dynamics for Renewable Energy Applications

Activities

CREA laboratory aims at being a centre of excellence for the study of fluid dynamics not suitable for applications in the field of renewable energies. The activity is mainly directed to new measurement techniques' development and to innovative fluid machines' design, with particular reference to turbomachines for organic fluid Rankine cycle (ORC) and for operating cycles with supercritical CO2 (scCO2). Thanks to the integration of different skills of the involved Departments, the laboratory is an authoritative point of reference, in the national and international scene, for industrial and academic partners.

Location

Bovisa Campus of via La Masa (building B16A).

  • Indicative value: 90.000 €

(*) Note: the TROVA installation is currently the only testing facility in the world where it is possible to observe optically a non-ideal organic fluid flow. Its realization, over the past six years, was primarily funded with funds from industry field, demonstrating that industrial world is interested on fluid dynamics studies of non-ideal flows.

Services provided

CREA laboratory provides services for optical and pressure measurements in non-ideal fluid flows, in proximity of the liquid-vapor saturation curve. Pressure measurements are made with instruments calibrated for temperatures up to 300°C. Optical measurements are double-passage Schlieren and Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurements.

Procedures and costs of using equipment

CREA laboratory works in research projects under agreement with public and private bodies. The laboratory equipment is also available for third party activities. Methods and costs of single activities are evaluated and quantified upon request, by contacting:
