Description of the initiative

The success of any interactive technology is strongly related to their capability of addressing the needs of end users and all related stakeholders. This in turn requires a user centered design and evaluation process. This workshop/lab focuses on methods and techniques related to i) participatory design, in which stakeholders are actively involved in the definition of the characteristics of contents, interaction modes, and tasks provided by the technology to be developed; empirical evaluation, in which the usability, utility, effectiveness, and potential for adoption are evaluated by gathering data on the users'/stakeholders' behavior and opinion. For both these aspects, the workshop/lab comprises ex-cathedra presentation as well as intensie hands-on, during which the students, supervised by the teachers, carry out activities of participatory design and empirical evaluation about assigned case studies.
