Description of the initiative
The interdisciplinary course, jointly organised with Prof. Kerry Fang (Florida State University) and Prof. Leonid Limonov (HSE St. Petersburg), focuses on the relationships between urban transformation, urban planning perspectives, and economic development from a global perspective.
After successfully completing this course students will be able to: Solve concrete planning problems in both domestic and international settings by applying economic development theories and analysis tools to; Formulate evidence-based policy recommendations and adapt them to different political settings; Communicate effectively with a cross-cultural and cross-discipline audience; Work effectively in international teams; Articulate differences and commonalities in the US, Russian and Italian perspectives of economic development
Moreover, students may also be able to: Identify benefits as well as challenges in international collaborations and confront challenges with communication and conflict resolution skills; Identify their own pre-assumptions about the other cultures/countries and reflect on how these shape attitudes and behaviors
The course is organised in online joint lectures with teachers and students from the three universities and final project work.
The topics of the lectures will be: Economic Development at National and Global Scale; Urban Theory at different levels; a methodological section on quantitative and qualitative analytical methods; Development Strategies and policies in a Comparative Perspective.
The final outcome will be a joint project work to be presented during the last online lessons.
